For those who love the outdoors, a short drive from Pendleton will take them to Lake Hartwell to the west and south and Lake Keowee to the northwest. Boating, fishing, kayaking, swimming, and camping are just a few of the ways to get fit — or just relax — while enjoying nature’s beauty. And, the majesty of the Great Smoky Mountains aren’t far: take a two-hour trip to begin your explorations at the Nantahala Outdoor Center, or simply enjoy the drive through the National Forest.
For bigger-city entertainment, Greenville is less than an hour’s drive from Pendleton. The city does offer excellent opportunities for enjoying nature, such as the riverside gardens and waterfall views at Falls Park on the Reedy and Paris Mountain State Park to the north of Greenville.
But, most people are drawn to Greenville for its more urban excitement value — named by Forbes as one of America’s Best Downtowns. The Peace Center hosts Broadway shows, concerts, dance performances and more, all conveniently located close to downtown dining options.
And, for traveling further afield, Greenville-Spartanburg Airport is less than an hour from Pendleton, easily accessed from I-85 and serviced by five airlines: Allegiant, American, Delta, Southwest, and United.
